Startup Immersion Project 1 Month Startup Exposure
During my semester break, I enrolled in the SIP programme and gained exposure to the start-up ecosystem, working under Scratchbac as a Growth Intern during my semesters and learning alongside entrepreneurs.

A sneak peek into our last days working at Scratchbac, a software startup. Edited by a fellow intern.
About the Company: Scratchbac
Scratchbac is a software startup & community application aimed to allow people in the same neighbourhood to connect with each other online, fostering a sense of community and allowing neighbours to get chat with each other, post posts about their interests (e.g. what good food they have tried nearby) and ask for any help (e.g. borrowing tools, etc.)
I gained insights into...
The Nature of Startups
The experience gave me insight to the fast paced a and unpredictable environments, which require adaptability and the flexibility to be open to new ideas. As an intern, our insights were also highly valued and considered in decision making.

Jerry, the founder guiding us through the ideation process.
We used sticky notes to come up with 5 feasible ideas that come to mind and subsequently came together to discuss and break down each idea.

IDEATING A MARKETING CAMPAIGN
Our Final Idea: Community Cat Home Building Event
Who did we target and why?
Our target audience here was the community at the Boon Lay HDB residential area. We specifically chose a community centric event to target individuals who care about community activities like wellbeing of community cats.
How did this align with the company goals?
This encouraged to bring people in the same community together, fostering connections both offline and online.
What was the desired outcome from this event?
We aimed to...
-
Foster a greater sense of community between the residents online and offline through offline interactions
-
Introduce our app and encourage downloads, asking them to share event photos to those in their neighbourhood on the app

The result
Participants fostered long-term connections & continued interacting online.
After the event, the participants continued interacting within the chat, updating one another about the community cats in the neighbourhood. This ongoing interaction demonstrated the event’s success in creating a community beyond just the event itself, fostering long-term connections from offline interactions.
While were not able to track app engagement afterward, we made sure to encourage participants to download the app during the event to keep in contact as neighbours and notify other residents about their involvement. This helped build awareness of the app as a valuable tool for staying informed and engaging with local initiatives.
